CoDesign + Sheldon’s first electric truck will reduce our environmental impact

Going electric is an important step in our commitment to sustainable operations and caring for Country

Our first electric truck has joined our fleet of vehicles, which will reduce the carbon emission output of CoDesign + Sheldon’s deliveries to zero. It’s an exciting step in our dedication to reducing our impact on the environment.

CoDesign + Sheldon's electric truck will reduce the carbon emissions of its deliveries to zero.

Why an electric truck?

Reducing our carbon footprint goes hand in hand with caring for the Country that we are all custodians of, now and for future generations.

"The invitation stands for all modern Australians, to accept their responsibility of custodianship, make this country your heritage and make caring for it and protecting it your culture,” said our CEO Professor Richard Swain.

Reducing our carbon footprint through the electric truck is an example of our commitment to using profits for purpose – whether that be through our support of land regeneration initiatives at Yambulla, or sharing traditional knowledge and Indigenous practices through Back to Country. Looking after Country is at the core of these initiatives, and greener energy directly contributes to this.

Our sustainability and circular economy strategy also includes reusing and recycling materials in our workplace fitout projects, using sustainably made materials, and planning towards a solar-powered with battery storage manufacturing facility.

The time to take action is now

Co-founder of CoDesign + Sheldon Peter Law reiterated Richard’s sentiment:

“Why wait another generation to take action? Why wait until the next generation of electric vehicles becomes more affordable or more widely available? We wanted to get ahead and do something about our environmental impact now,” said Peter.

A future of electric vehicles

Electric vehicles, powered by Australia’s abundant renewable energy resources such as lithium, are critical to achieve Australia’s emissions target of 43% below 2005 levels by 2030, and net-zero by 2050[1].

While 8.4% of all new cars sold in 2023 were electric cars, a 120% increase from 2022 indicating a promising uptake from consumers, the increase in electric buses and trucks has been much slower.[2] This is due to a range of factors including limited supply, lack of charging infrastructure nation-wide, cost and uncertain policy frameworks.

Transport is predicted to be Australia’s largest source of emissions by 2030[3] - if we don’t act to make changes now. An uptake in electric trucks will have a huge impact on reducing Australia’s carbon emissions and getting closer to the net-zero target.

We are excited about the arrival of our electric truck, and to continue making conscious steps to reduce our impact on the environment and help heal Country.
