Richard Swain attends Global Nature Positive Summit

In October 2024, our CEO Richard Swain attended the inaugural Global Nature Positive Summit, a world-first initiative hosted by the federal government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Richard was amongst a group of Indigenous representatives and leaders in conservation, biodiversity and caring for Country to present a joint statement to the Minister for the Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek.

The statement calls for increased Indigenous collaboration and knowledge about decisions that affect our environment.

The statement includes the following which CoDesign + Sheldon reiterates: “Nature Positive may sound like a new concept, but First Peoples have been nature-positive for millennia. We call it caring for Country. Whether it’s land, sea or sky, caring for Country has been part of our stories and songlines for generations. It’s driven by one simple principle: leaving Country better than you found it.”

“Indigenous voices are vital to the success of nature-positive initiatives in Australia and globally. We must all commit to First Peoples being engaged in the nature-positive agenda and nature law reforms right from the start.”

Thanks to DCCEEW and all event participants for hosting and participating in this important summit.
